CSS伪元素的一个疑问？

写法一：.businessType:before {content: '';display: block;}写法二：.businessType:before {content: '';display: table;}为什么两种写法产生的效果不一样？写法一不能起到占位，而写法二却可以起到占位的作用？

你这里说的占位是什么意思？是换行吗？如果是换行的话，两种都可以呀
